Critical Commentary

This document is a transcription of a hearing by the New Jersey Senate's Environment and Energy Committee on 4/18/2017 ar the Meadowlands Environment Center in Lyndhurst, NJ on a resolution (SR107/AR219) to urge the state and federal government to look into efforts by Argentina's state oil company to evade responsibility for the cleanup of the Passaic River through bankruptcy. The oil company, YPF S.A., purchased Maxus Energy Corporation, which had previously been called the Diamond Alkali Co., in 1995, inheriting its environmental liabilities. This hearing includes valuable testimony from environmental and community organizations, superfund experts and others. SR107/AR219 was passed by both chambers, and its legislative history can be found here: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/bills/BillView.asp
