The Minority Scholars from Under-Represented Groups in Engineering and the Social Sciences (SURGE) Capacity in Disasters project is part of University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO)'s College of Public Affairs and Community Service. According to their website, "The Minority Scholars from Under-Represented Groups in Engineering and the Social Sciences (SURGE) Capacity in Disasters project will focus two grand challenges: the underrepresentation of STEM racial and ethnic minorities in hazards and disaster research and the disproportionate impacts of disasters on underserved racial and ethnic minorities. SURGE is a Design and Development Launch Pilot project for National Science Foundation (INCLUDES) Inclusion across the Nation of Communities of Learners of Underrepresented Discoverers in Engineering and Science initiative."

This artifact is part of a PECE essay on Lori Peek, who is a co-PI for the project.
