ATRAZINE: ECOLOGICAL EFFECTS

Text

Atrazine has been found in many water sources, with toxic effects on ecosystems and organisms. It can disrupt growth functions with plants, including organisms such as algae and phytoplankton. Animals such as invertebrates, tadpoles, and fish with exposure to atrazine has been linked to reproductive problems, including the demasculinization (chemical castration) and feminization of frogs. Studies within rates have found that atrazine can be linked to disrupting neurodevelopment, interfering with the dopamine system. The full ecological effects of atrazine are not fully understood, but pose large ecological effects within terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
