Critical Commentary

National Nurses United (NNU) is the largest union and professional association of registered nurses in U.S. history with nearly 225,000 members across multiple states.

NNU has specific campaigns to address the catastrophic health impacts of global warming, and the associated extreme weather conditions such as wide spread drought, wildfires, and flooding all over world. These broad campaigns focus environmental injustice in local union communities; disease from air pollution, inadequate access to clean water, substandard and polluted housing, and toxic dumping.

To do this, NNU lobbies local, state, and national governments to pass legislation focused on environmental justice.  They engage communities and stand in solidarity with local organizations to resist the fossil fuel industry.
