Natasha Anushri Anandaraja, MD, MPH

Dr. Anu Anandaraja was born in New Zealand where she earned her medical degree. She worked with international NGOs on child health and disaster relief before coming to New York City in 2002, where she trained in Pediatrics, Global Health and Public Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.  Dr. Anadaraja was the Director of Global Health Education at Mount Sinai from 2008 until 2015.  In this role she partnered with NGOs, government agencies and under-resourced communities to establish maternal and child health programs in countries including India, the Dominican Republic, and Mozambique. After leaving Mount Sinai in 2016, Anu founded Women Together Global Inc. ( to invest in peer education and co-empowerment of grassroots women’s groups in Malawi. 

After filing a federal case against Mount Sinai for sex, age and race discrimination in 2019, Anu and her 7 co-plaintiffs formed Equity Now (, providing a platform for women to speak about harassment in the healthcare system, and advocating for gender equity in healthcare, including passing legislation that established a Gender and Race Equity Advisory Board for the NY City Council.

Anu is also the Co-founder of Covid Courage, ( a not-for-profit organization created in March 2020 to mobilize NYC community groups to produce and distribute PPE to frontline healthcare workers. 


Holly G. Atkinson, MD, FACP, FAMWA

Dr. Holly Atkinson is Affiliate Medical Professor, Department of Clinical Medicine at the CUNY School of Medicine in New York City. Prior to joining the CUNY faculty, Dr. Atkinson was at Mount Sinai Health System for 10 years, where she was a founder and director of the Human Rights Program.

Holly has a broad background in human rights, having served on the board of directors of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning organization Physicians for Human Rights for more than 16 years, including four years as Chair of the Board. She is a senior advisor to PHR and is part of their Asylum Network.

In 2019, Holly was one of eight plaintiffs who filed a federal lawsuit against Mount Sinai Health System for sex, age, and race discrimination and subsequently help to form Equity Now ( to provide a platform for women to speak about harassment in the healthcare system and to advocate for gender equity in healthcare. She is also a founding partner of Physician Just Equity (, a non-profit organization devoted to gender and racial equity in the healthcare workplace. Holly has BS degree from Colgate University, an MD from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, and an MS from Columbia University School of Journalism. She is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
