Doctors without Borders (MSF) is an organization that provides emergnecy medical aid to communities affeted by conflict, epidemics, disasters, and more. It's composed of mostly physicians and other health care workers, but is accepting of individuals which will help it achieve it's goals. MSF takes a neutral stance on issues as they only strictly abide by medical ethics.
The MSF is very active in the production of worker based stories and articles. Workers under the MSF have a "See something, Say something" policy. A current example is The malnutrition currently being assessed in Chad. They have their staff share their stories with the world.
MSF is funded through donations and is a 503(c) nonprofit organization. In FY 2014 MSF received $19.5 million for worldwide projects. They hold fundraisers through companies and individuals.
Doctors Without Borders comes with a unique aspect of non-bias for the people they give care. Just as a hospital should have no bias, MSF has no religious affiliation, pays no attention to social classes and does not participate in political battles. This lack of bias allows for the most effect when administering emergency patient care.
Doctors without Borders is a group that not only responds to emergencies and disasters, they also create predictions to problems that are affecting third-world communities. The research that best embodies this is the research conducted regaurding the 'Effect of Mass Supplementation with Ready-to-Use Supplementary Food during an Anticipated Nutritional Emergency' they used this information gathered in Niger to prove that with early intervention in children ages 6 to 23 months you can reduce mortality rate in areas at risk for nutritional deficiency crisis'.
"Over the past 10 years, MSF has provided medical care to approximately almost 118,000 victims of sexual violence. Integrating related care into MSF general assistance to populations affected by crisis and conflicts has presented a considerable institutional struggle and continues to be a challenge. Tensions regarding the role of MSF in the care to victims of sexual violence and when facing the multiple challenges inherent in dealing with this crime persist. An overview of MSF experience and related reflection aims to share with the reader on one hand the complexity of the issue, and on the other hand the need to continue fighting for the provision of adequate medical care for victims of sexual violence, which after all and despite the limits, is feasible."
MSF is stricken by the intensely difficult task of helping with sexual violence. Not only do they have to deal with supporting the 118,000 people physically, but they help emotionally as well. Another aspect which contributes to the problem is the vast differences in gender equality throughout the world.
As I stated in the previous annotiation, their membership is mostly physicians and other health care workers, but is open to anyone that provides a resource that helps them achieve their goals.
This group works in varying social ecologies therefore requiring it to be very flexible and prepared for the any possible social ecology it may encounter. It can range from sparse medical facilities in Chad in which they have to set up working clinics and shelter for individuals to war-stricken Yemen in which Safe health locations are key to adequate healthcare.
