The author, Didier Fassin is an anthropologist and sociologist who works overseas in Sengal, Ecuador, South Africa, and France. He is a physician and has a background in public health and global health as well. He is a professor of social science at the Institute for advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. He has focused on the AIDS epidemic as well as humanitarian efforts.
I personally wouldn't say that emergency response was a factor discussed or addressed in this paper. Rather,there was a discussion about illegal immigration and public health aspects and the duty France and other countries had to those seeking residence or living in their respective countries. I think more so, public health aspects were discussed in this paper as well as social aspects of duty and justice rather than emergency response.
A lot of background information and history was used to support and produce claims made in the article. Laws were discussed as well as their origins and effects on the population. Yet, specific stories were told about a 33 year old Tunisian, another about a Moroccan man who applied for a residence permit due to health issues, another about a Malian who lived in France. Real stories and accounts of problems faced in terms of immigration and health issues, as well as past experiences, were a main tool and method used in order to produce valid arguments throughout this text.

I researched the current law and statues on immigration and health care/illness in other countries aside from France. I wanted to be able to understand how France's policies compared to our own, as well as America's policies versus other countries. I also researched the immigration protocols in France, both going and coming. Along with this, I also wanted to learn more about their current healthcare system, what they can offer, how advanced they are and compare it to America, to help put it into context. I also wanted to research how their health system works, as well as any protocols they follow in terms of public health.
The article's main points have been supported focusing discussion around the history of laws and immigrations, as well as philosophical background on the matter and discussions. Stories and testimonies from past experiences and residents are also used to drive home the main arguments.
It is important to note that this is the third chapter of the book, so when looking up the bibliography online, it was determined that for the entire book, there were hundreds of citations and references used. Most of them were studies, articles and other works ranging over years and years, done by experts in the field. There were also a lot of press articles and studies from foreign countries as well. This all showing an extensive and thorough amount of research that went into this book.

This article discusses the French laws and their effect on immigration and healthcare. The laws around the retention of illegal immigrants in France to get treated for their illnesses are discussed. Policies are also discussed in comparison with America and other western nations. The law that is behind this was published in June 1997 by Jean-Pierre Chevenementthe. The public health aspects as well a immigrant rights are also discussed.
This book and its themes have been referenced in some of the authors other works. Yet based off my research, I was not abel to find it referenced in other papers or books.
