This organization comprises a coalition of other environmental justice organizations throughout California. Each of the individual organizations has a representative on the CEJA Steering Committee. The CEJA also has a staff team that includes an Executive Director, Development Director, Communications Manager, Policy Analysts, Grant Writers,  and a suite of Program and Campaign Managers.

“Our communities are coming together to fight back.” They partner this with the explanation that all Californians have the right to a healthy and safe environment. They have been featured in numerous major local and national news outlets within the media.

  1. Environmental Health Data, Air Quality, Demographic, State and Federal, and Community-Based participatory research have all been critical to the evolution of the CEJA. Using these resources as evidence helps support the claims of the disproportionate impacts of environmental hazards on underrepresented populations and their communities.

  1. Since its inception, the CEJA has worked to mobilize thousands of people to California’s Capitol to advocate for and against policy. 

  2. They have drastically increased the engagement of Black, Latino, Asian Pacific American, and immigrant stakeholders to fight for EJ policies. Collectively, they educate one another, strategize and build social power to better their communities.

  1. The California EJ Alliance (CEJA) was founded in 2001. It represents a coalition of four grassroots environmental justice organizations in California; the Asian Pacific Environmental Network, the Center on Race Poverty and the Environment, Communities for a Better Environment, and the Environmental Health Coalition. Together, they have worked to unite the voices of member organizations and collectively push for systemic change.
