I hope to be involved in projects that aim to gather scientific evidence to inform environmental decision making and advocate for greater equity and justice in environmental governance. Through this work, I hope to learn the skills needed to engage in community based research and leverage community knowledge as expert knowledge. In my department, things are often siloed and issues are only seen through one perspective. I really want to gain more experience in collaborating with a wide array of stakeholders to come up with approaches to mitigate the environmental injustices experienced in under-resourced communities.
The organization has the infrastructure of the Federal government, however they operate in areas that are more rural, including Alaska and the Southwest where environmental issues such as clean drinking water can be present, which they address in their community health approach. All members also are allowed access to the internet, which I'm assuming is available at each of their locations.
The Origami Bridge (Mobile Bridge Version 4.0) is designed to use in the area that have been destroyed and yet need a temporary bridge in order to connect the transportation to other areas. So the design is intended to use in area that has earthquakes, floods or landslides.
With the spread of relevant information, OSHA has used mass media production to inform the publics. They also provide “OSHA's Hazard Identification Training Tool” via gaming mode to educate the publics (exe application and web flash). [https://www.osha.gov/hazfinder/index.html]
This film is a good source for the general publics to gain awareness with lack of medical centers within the third world countries, so some audience might gain interest to assist the locals by contact the relevant medical organizations.
As mentioned above, Cloud9 has partnership with Capital Factory, IBM, Telemental Health Institute and Health Wildcatters. But for a system to work, it is more important that patients, providers and organizations have come and work together.
The author is Sonja D. Schmid who is a professor of Science and Technology in Society at Virginia Tech. Her area of expertise is the social aspect of science and technology, esp. during the Cold War, as well as science and technology policy, science and democracy, qualitative studies of risk, energy policy, and nuclear emergency response. As a professor and researcher she has does relevant studies on Fukushima and nuclear disasters relevant to the DSTS network.
