I teach anthropology and environmental studies at Haveford College, just outside of Philly. Currently, I'm holed up in a cabin in the Adirondacks in upstate New York with several family members, including my spouse and 4 year old daughter and 3 dogs. I started working on disasters by accident, when one day in 2001 I was walking to class at NYU and saw the World Trade Center buildings on flames. I have known Kim for a few year and I contacted her to connect with folks around Covid-19 and its imacts.

I'm particularly intersted in issues of communal grief, mourning, and bereavement. Also, I'm interested in the religious response to Covid-19.

It is part of the ebola response, but does not disclose any sources of funding.

The primary responsibility of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is "...to assure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance." The mission is to improve the safety and health of workers in all industries.

Examples from history are used to support claims from 9/11, as the author is a historian, and probably following the saying "history repeats itself" to show similarities between disasters and responses.

Newspaper atricles were also cited to show public response.

The author supports his case by citing various articles of legislation, highlighting the anecdotal accounts from affected immigrants, and presenting the perspective of physicians who are tasked with caring and treating for these patients. 

Thae laws are examined and explained to the reader. Examples of citations from physicians are also included with stories of the individual's journey and experiences.

In addition to coordinating the various local, state, and federal resources in the response efforts to a disaster, FEMA provides various resources to emergency response organizations including education and funding.

The study addresses the survivors of Katrina fairly soon after the disaster, at a time when they likely do not have much stability. Many were without homes, may have lost family or friends, neighborhoods were torn apart, schools were destroyed, and money was very thin. It was not an easy time, so focusing on this group at such a stressful time was the goal of the study.

As previously stated, the author relies on anecdotal evidence provided by patient interviews and the observations made by the author. In addition, the author presents statistical data on patients in the regions referenced in the article.

This article has been referenced in other articles that study disaster PTSD, mental health after hosting refugees from a disaster, and using epidemolody to help draft policies for disaster response. These papers all further the research and possible benefits for humanity.
