This image reminds me of how mutual aid and communities keep each other fed, and safe, and how local practices are actually best practices. My own research， although not immediatley related to the specific public health concern of COVID, will focus on Indigenous food soverignty, particularly the right and autonomy to ferment and distribute alcohol (紅糯米酒) within the Amis community, and their current fight with the local health department on declaring whether or not their alcohol is "safe" for public consumption and distribution.

I followed up on the outcome of the lawsuit filed against the EPA, the cleanup efforts (i.e. how long it took to cleanup, who participated), and why the EPA allowed residents to move back into their homes in the days following the tower collapses.

SNAP and WIC are two organizations helping low-income families.  30,000 Newark children are receiving SNAP benefits, and 12% of Newark residents are eligible for WIC.  SNAP is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and WIC is the Supplemental Nutrition Program Women, Infants, and Children.  Both organizations provide nutritious food to low-income families to prevent food insecurity.

The book from which this excerpt is a part of has been used and referenced in classes outside of Virginia Tech including MIT and Johns Hopkins.

Data for this article was gathered through studies conducted with the PIH in the United States, Haiti, and Africa as well as researching other publications.

The NYS ebola preparedness plan was designed to outline the plan for responding to and preparing for ebola emergencies within the NYS health system

The plan does not appear to address any specific population but the public in general.

The IHS mainly focuses on disaster prevention and preparedness with initiatives such as teaching children about illness prevention, teaching about safe drinking water and food safety, preventing the spread of disease, and preventing injuries. They also have a number of resources available to their members to connect with healthcare professionals. This seems to be a community awareness type approach that prevents the spread of disease by teaching the community. It resembles that of many healthcare systems and does not seem to suggest problems with other approaches.

This bar graph shows that blacks have the lowest median household income out of all races.  This means that they are at most risk of hazards, they are most affected by poverty, with Hispanics being the second most affected.

This study is published the Environmental Health Perspectives.  The journal helps explain the continuity between human health and the environment.  They publish topics like toxicology, epidemiology, exposure science, and risk assessment.  The publication is ranked highly among professionals and has a rating of 8.44.
