Pödelwitz is an activist initiative  in the central german coal district, which is located in a village which was supposed to be evacuated for a planned expansion of a neighboring coal mine. After successfully resisting this expansion, the activists now promote social-ecological transformation in the village and the wider region. I will collaborate with them as part of my project in C-urge to study the role of justice in such transformations. Thereby we hope to arrive at an understanding of justice that is not opposed to urgent societal transformation in light of climate change, but a means of achieving this.

I looked further into governmental relief policies  after disasters, mental health policies in regard to emergencies, and New Orleans current state. 

Professionals could use data from this study to further research the affects of nuclear radiation on the human body. 

Miriam Ticktin received her PhD in Anthropology at Stanford University and the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris, France, and an MA in English Literature from Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. Ticktin is now an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Co-Director of Zolberg Institute for Migration and Mobility. 

Emergency response is not specifically addressed in this article but access to health care is, which is just as important. Limiting the access to healthcare because of socioeconomic conditions contributes to the spread of diseases. 

This article has been referenced in various books about the global health and international relations. 

Knowles supports this argument through his investigation and presentation of three historical disasters that occurred in the United States. The disasters he chose included a structural integrity factor and a general malfunction or misuse  of safety equipment. Knowles also discussed policy that resulted because of these disasters. The argument is also supported through his discussion of the events that occurred post 9/11 and the public out cry from that event as well. Knowles discusses the investigation after theses events occurred and how often times there is a lot of opinions and findings as to what the cause of the disaster or equipment failure was. 

This article includes information gathered by research from the two authors themselves as well as their publications, but it also sites other articles that have been pulished by other researchers in the field. 

The most persuasive/ compelling parts of the film include narratives of the family members of those affected with cancer. One of the more emotional segments included the death of a Marine that the film had been following.
