The Waiting Room, being a documentary, uses a plethora of personal annecdotes in order to support the argument emotionally. The arguement is supported from more than one direction which, in my opinion, makes this such an empowering film. The film combats the problem from both the patient and clinical side showing frustrations on both sides.
The film best addresses any layperson interested in enviromental policy, healthcare, or military affairs.
These application systems were designed to serve anyone who was a victim of sexual assault.
This system would be difficult to work with because it publicises patient's conditions even if it does not directly identify who they are. Some of the diseases or conditions these patients are faced with can be considered humiliating and while the intent of the app is to be educational, a healthcare professionals are faced with the ethical decision as to whether or not post the picture of their patient. A guideline Figure 1 outlines is that before taking and posting a picture the provider should have consent from the patient. Hospitals, clinics, agency, ect. are also faced with whether to allow their members to engage in these activities as patient confidentiality could be called into question.
This program was started in Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Charon and colleges believed that physicians have become far too clinical and are only treating based on symptoms. Their efforts are the reason the program exists today.
I have never hear about the 3 Mile Island accident, so I researched that. I had never heard of the fact that this happened kinda close to home. Granted it was only a partial meltdown, but still.
The author Sonja D. Schmid is an assistant professor at Virgina Tech. She specializes in the history of technology, science and technology policy, and social studies of risk. In respect to emergency response, Schmid has studied how agencies and personnel responded to nuclear disasters in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe.
