This report was produce by compiling historical events and vignettes of the investigation process following several prolific tragedies. They are compared, and conclusions are drawn about similar aspects that muddle investigation following one of these tragedies.

The educational program in Haiti organized by Handicap International aims to train citizens of Haiti for careers as rehabilitation technicians and orthopedic technicians. The program is designed to provide a recognized degree allowing graduates to work as technicians under the supervision of physical therapists and orthopedic doctors. 

The film suggests a change in the treatment of terminal patients nearing the end of their lives. Several doctors in the film expressed that they were unprepared to deal with that part of medicine. Experience is the most effective means of education in the medical field, however the film seems to suggest that more training in medical school would be a good first step in preparing doctors not to see the loss of terminal patients as a failure, but in many cases as an inevitability.

The article mentioned a proposed framework for health threats of security created by the World Health Organization, I did some research on the organization in order to understand their approach to emergency response as outlined the their Health Emergencies Program.

Recent developments in life sciences and bioengineering were cited several times throughout the article as having the potential to be a health risk. I looked at the headline research being done in those areas to better understand how health risks may be changing.

The article mentioned an unsuccessful vaccination program meant to prevent a smallpox outbreak, I looked into the history of that as a way of considering the preventative aspects of disaster response.

The apps are noted in the article as ‘mostly homegrown’ and the technical capabilities show that to be the case. None of the apps described provide new function, but rather adapt a smartphones existing capabilities. The ability to record information, send information to another user, and send a group message already exist. The only special function supported in some of the apps is the automatic save of a recording to an otherwise inaccessible portion of the cloud.

The event of a disaster as well as the confusion and stress of the aftermath and long term recovery and socioeconomic factors lead to a specific mental health disorder referred to as Chronic Disaster Syndrom.
