In recent years all over the country, there has been an increase in the targeting of EMS and fire professionals in violant crimes, a few of which this article goes into detail describing. More recently, buget cuts have reduced the number of available officers in the response area served by the Bethel Township Fire Department, preventing law enforcement to be able to respond to calls in a timely manner. This puts Fire/EMS providers at heightened risk. 

One specific challenge found by this organization is that not all veterans want their help in dealing with the stress experienced upon returning to civilian life. Although the support is available there is no way for the organization to force anyone to accept their help, which is a big concern for the organization.

The author of this article drew on first hand accounts of the WTC attacks from fire, police, and EMS personel, as well as witnesses to reconstruct the events that transpired on the morning of 9/11/01 with regards to the response. The author also conducted and cited interviews with high ranking active and retired members of the Police and Fire Departments, such as FDNY Chiefs and officers and NYPD Commissioners. Based on this, the author examines specific shortcomings, such as lack of coordination between Fire and Police, comminication barriers, and the overwhelming and uncoordinated response by both on and off-duty firefighters.

The author Sonja D. Schmid is an assistant professor at Virginia Tech, she has expertise in the history of national energy policies looking at the risk associated with the nuclear industry. She has written several papers on the Soviet nuclear industry as well as policies and political controversies surrounding the nuclear industry and its potential military uses. 

The study was funded with assistance from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the Center of Economic Excellence, located in South Carolina, through a program for the Doris Meddin Levkoff Center for Medication Safety.

The programs are targeted at students and health professionals, educating them in the Center’s mission and providing them with training and education opportunities.

This report was written using the transcript of the Committees’ sixtieth session, it was then presented to the United Nations General Assembly and published by the United Nations. The scientific papers included in the report were later submitted for publication in scientific journals. The report itself was used as an informative reference for the General Assembly when considering changes to the nuclear industry policies. 

The film addresses a general audience, although the subject matter requires a more mature outlook in order to fully understand the film. Although there is some medical aspects to the film, the meaning is based in the emotional aspect of mortality which can be conveyed without previous medical expertise.
